About the origin of seasons

Yesterday I wrote about Greek mithology, and how they use it in order to teach. It is wonderful, without a doubt, to think they and we are connected so many millennia later by a bunch of tales.

Simple tales, to explain complex issues. For instance, the four seasons. Six months a year we have bad weather (rain, cold, wind, snow...) and the other six, we have good weather (sun and white little clouds, warm and long days).

One could think this is because the Earth is closer o further from the Sun, or that depends on where we are (bellow or above Ecuatorial line).

I prefer to think is because Demeter is happy or sad, because she has her daughter, Persephone, by her side, or on the contrary, her daughter is playing the role of Hades' wife, and ruling the underworld whit her husband.

You know what? After defeat the Titans, and send they back to their invisible prison, Zeus called two of his brothers, Posidon and Hades, and say to them: "It is time we rule the universe. I will be the king of sky and earth, and father of all; you Posidon will rule the seas, and all what is whitin it, and you Hades, you will rule the underworld, its jewels and its gold, and you will have the task of warden the condemned, and be the host of souls of deaths once they die.

But the underworld was a grey, dark and lonely place, where you only could hear the cries of cursed, and the roaring of Cerberus, the threehead dog that watches the gates of fire, and Hades was sad. So he thought he need a wife, and looking for that he found the beautiful Persephone. He took her and they go back to his kingdom. And suddenly, Demeter, mother of Persephone (and Hades' sister) started a desesperate search of her daughter, and she didn't take care of her mission, which was to manteing the fields safe, the fruits big and the weather good.

When she discovered what Hades had done, she denounced him to Zeus, and demanded the immediate back of her daughter. But the problem was Persephone had fell in love with Hades, and also and more important, she had taste a bunch of grapes from the underworld, so she belongs to that place.

After a moment of reflexion, Zeus sentenced: "for six months a year, Persephone will be with her mother, and for six months, she will be with her husband"

And that is the reason of the succession of seasons. During six months a year, Demeter is happy, and the fields gloom and the men enjoy and go to the beach. But other six months, Demeter is sad, and then is cold and weather is bad, so men must stay at home and be patient.

A regular man

There is a story about a man . Just a regular man, not specially tall, or smart, or funny. An average man. As any other man in the world, he had a father, and also a mother. He loved his mother and his mother loved him. He deeply hated his father, and his father hated him. His mother was a kind woman, always smiling, always tender. The father was a terrible person. He beat his son, insulted him... That man despised his son. Several years later, when the man of our history was 30 or 35 years old, the mother died. That kind and tender mother who had loved him and who had cared for him, simply passed away. During the burial, trying to remember things he had in common, or beautiful memories of her, the man discovered himself totally incapable of crying. And even more several years later, when our man was 50 years old, his father passed away. That terrible father who had made our man's life miserable, who had beaten him, caught a fatal condition, and died. But in the father's fu...

I'm inside sadness

I'm inside sadness, which is a time And a space, and a soul devoured by another ghost soul which hasn't been. Nothing or anyone pains inside sadness, meanwhile slow days get longer And their darkness kingdoms Drown from "Soy en mayo". A poem by National Poetry Awarded Julio Martínez Mesanza

The throne room

300 years ago, there was a great warrior, who united seven kingdoms in one single Crown. The warrior had a beast. A black great monstrous dragon. The dragonfire melted down a thousand blades, and forged a throne, so high that it touched the roof of the great room, inside a Red Fortress. Today, the king is not a warrior, not a ruler. He is just a kid. And kids are not good enough to be kings. The kingdom is ruled by King's advisors, like his grandfather, a powerful landlord from the west. There are others. An old Master of the Citadel, with a chain carrying rings of gold and silver. And there are two men. Two smart and powerful men, who came from nothing. Men from nothing are the most dangerous of every men. Those who have nothing to lose, have nothing to fear. These men like and hate one each other. And that is the key of today's story. A lesson one though the other. In the throne room. The two men look the Iron Throne. "A thousand blades... Taken from the hands of Kin...
